Hitting Instruction

Bat Path, Timing, and Mechanics that Actually Transfer

Hitting is one of the most feel-dependent skills in sports. Our hitting lessons start with the basics — stance, load, hip rotation, bat path, and contact — and scale with your athlete's age and experience. Technology like swing sensors or video can offer useful data points, but we never let the numbers replace the feel. A great swing has rhythm, timing, and intent. We make sure your athlete understands both.

Hitting Lessons

  • Stance, balance, and athletic setup
  • Load, timing, and hip-to-shoulder sequence
  • Bat path, contact zone, and extension
  • Rhythm, timing, and pitch recognition at age-appropriate levels
  • Adjusting to pitch location and pitch type
  • Technology-assisted swing feedback when helpful (not required)
  • Drill progression matched to the athlete's current skill level

Every hitting drill we use has a clear purpose we explain to the athlete. When a player understands why the hip leads the hands, or why a short path through the zone matters, they carry that knowledge into games — not just the batting cage.

Pitching Instruction

Mechanics, Arm Care, and Repeatable Delivery

Pitching development at the youth level is about building a safe, repeatable motion — not chasing early velocity. Our pitching lessons focus on delivery mechanics, arm care habits, and the athletic rhythm that makes consistency possible. We introduce pitch sequencing concepts only when a player is developmentally ready, and we use technology and video selectively to reinforce what the athlete is already experiencing in their body.

Pitching Lessons

  • Grip, wrist action, and release fundamentals
  • Wind-up and stretch delivery mechanics
  • Balance point, stride, and drive-leg engagement
  • Arm path, arm care, and healthy mechanics
  • Hip-to-shoulder separation and rotational timing
  • Pitch-type introduction at age-appropriate levels
  • Delivery consistency and repeatability under pressure
  • Technology or video review when it meaningfully helps the athlete

We never prioritize velocity over health. At Private Lessons, arm care is as much a part of pitching instruction as mechanics. Young pitchers leave our lessons understanding why their body moves a certain way — and why protecting that arm matters for the long game.

Catching Instruction

The Full Catcher: Receiving, Blocking, Throwing, and Game Intelligence

The catcher's position demands more than physical skills — it requires communication, anticipation, and leadership on the field. Our catching lessons cover the complete toolkit: receiving technique, blocking fundamentals, footwork for throws, and the mental habits that help young catchers manage a game with confidence. Everything is scaled to what a youth player can reasonably develop at their stage.

Catching Lessons

  • Receiving mechanics and framing fundamentals
  • Blocking technique and body positioning
  • Footwork patterns for throws to second and third
  • Throwing mechanics and arm-action efficiency
  • Pop time concepts introduced at appropriate levels
  • Stance, set-up, and signal presentation
  • Catcher-pitcher communication basics
  • Game-management mindset and field leadership

Great catchers are built over time. Our catching lessons meet athletes where they are — whether they're just learning to block a ball in the dirt or refining their throw-down mechanics. We explain why each skill matters to the position, so catchers develop awareness, not just habits.

Fielding & Throwing

Footwork, Routes, Arm Strength, and Defensive Fundamentals

Defense wins games at every level. Our fielding and throwing instruction covers the foundational skills that make athletes reliable in the field — proper footwork, efficient glove work, route-running habits, and throwing mechanics that are both powerful and sustainable. We cover both infield and outfield skills for baseball and softball players, adapting progressions to the athlete's position goals and current skill level.

Fielding & Throwing Lessons

  • Ready position, first step, and footwork fundamentals
  • Glove-side and backhand fielding mechanics
  • Ground ball and short-hop technique
  • Fly ball routes, drop step, and tracking fundamentals
  • Throwing mechanics: grip, arm path, and follow-through
  • Footwork for throws across infield positions
  • Outfield throwing angles and crow-hop mechanics
  • Positional adjustments for baseball vs. softball

We teach fielding as athletic movement, not just repetitive reps. Understanding why you attack a ground ball on the backhand side, or why your feet create throwing power, turns defensive instruction into something athletes can apply instinctively in games.

Small-Group Lessons

Learn Together, Grow Faster

Small-group lessons bring 3-5 athletes together for structured, focused instruction that combines the benefits of peer learning with the guidance of a private coach. Athletes observe each other, stay active between reps, and build competitive energy that mirrors real game environments — all while receiving individual attention within the group setting.

Group of athletes

Group Size

Sessions are kept to 3–5 athletes to ensure every player receives meaningful coaching time and individual feedback within the lesson.

How It Differs from Private Lessons

Private lessons are fully one-on-one and move at the individual's pace. Small-group sessions balance shared reps with peer energy. Ideal for athletes who learn well by watching and competing.

Player Evaluations

Know Where Your Athlete Stands and Where They're Headed

A player evaluation gives athletes and parents a clear, honest picture of current strengths and the skills most worth developing next. Rather than a pass/fail assessment, our evaluations are a coaching conversation. They are structured to highlight what's working, identify priority areas, and map out a path forward that makes sense for the athlete's age, position, and goals.

What a Player Evaluation Includes

  1. Skill observation across the athlete's primary position and any areas of focus (hitting, running, fielding, throwing, pitching or catching.)
  2. Verbal and written feedback delivered to both the athlete and parent, focused on clear explanations, not jargon
  3. A development outline identifying priority skill areas and a recommended lesson path

We do not produce rankings, scores, or ratings that compare athletes to others. Evaluations are developmental — designed to inform instruction, not judge potential. Technology may be used to support observations where it adds meaningful clarity.
